For the last couple of weeks I have been finishing some very small paintings with a cast of hundreds (Who’s counting?… Not me!)
All those little people have to relate to each other and form community. Their clothing colour choices make for a kaleidoscope effect when they cluster in groups. Alone they are points of energy and colour to lead the eye around the composition.
But when I’m painting none of those technical things like perspective and composition or strucure are important. No, it’s each person and their viewpoint. Are they happy or sad, battling or victorious in their life? That is what I want to find out as they emerge on my canvas in their township setting.
So many stories!
