The path home

Original painting by Katharine Ambrose. 108cm x 109cm (3cm deep)

This large acrylic on canvas gives a wonderful sense of open mountain spaces with its dramatically high skyline and soft, sweeping yellow grass. The weatherbeaten, multi-layered patina of the pink homestead building walls, the stormy sky and windswept grass, provide marvellous textural contrast you can almost reach in and touch. There is a sense that you are looking up the almost hidden path and this is a time to get home and take shelter in its cosy interior until the beautiful, wild weather blows over. Typically, these rural home’s zinc roofs are weighed down with rocks (and sometimes large pumpkins) and the windows are small to keep the house warm in winter and cooler in summer.
