Katharine’s depictions of South African landscapes always create a sense of openness and delight, as if you had a window in your wall with a view of a special natural wonderland. This large painting with fabulously textured, rainbow-coloured grass foreground is an excellent example.
South African landscapes vary hugely from magnificent mountains and river gorges to long white sand beaches, often teaming with biodiversity. One particularly special landscape is the open savannah or grassveld, where multiple tall grass species shimmer and ripple like ocean waves as a warm breeze dances over them uninterrupted for miles under vast bright blue skies.
